Computer Technology Internet News Story Assignment # 1 This news story is about a man named David Malamed a forensic accountant who wanted to test and see how easy it was to get personal information about someone on facebook. He created a fake profile for someone called Michael Duarf and used a photo of Wentworth Miller, an actor on a TV show, Prison Break. Within 20 minutes, five people had responded with friend requests. One noticed the fake photo, but still wanted to add David. He went through her profile; after accepting the request. And then found her date of birth, where she lived (Mississauga) and her husband's name. Which after this, he researched her address on canada411.com. Then, he checked her list of friends and found her brother. This gave him her maiden name, often used for security checks by financial institutions. If he were an actual fraudster, he could apply for a new credit card in her name, maybe take out a mortgage or withdraw money from her bank account. The experiment David had done, was for reason of showing how quickly and easily personal information can be stolen by fraud criminals. The girl he research for information, is incredibly lucky he wasn’t doing it as a crime, but as a study, either wise everything about her personal information would be stolen. http://www.thestar.com/business/article/71...ngs-on-facebook Computer Employment Opportunities – Assignment # 2 JOB ONE Technical Support Specialist, http://www.workopolis.com/EN/job/11093120 Responsibilities • Hardware/software, database and user support • Phone and equipment technical support • Desktop software patching and upgrades • First line troubleshooting • On-site and off-site technical support at meetings and events • Online events training and support • Photo/video editing and conversions • Archive files management • Web page editing (alternate to Web Developer) • Hospital Lobby wall maintenance • Laptop/camera/projector/printer maintenance • Other related duties as assigned Knowledge and Skills • Must know a high level of using hardware, software, telecommunications and technical equipment • Superior customer service skills • Ability to identify troubleshoot problems • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced multi-site office environment • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products • Demonstrated team player • Excellent communication - written and verbal • Good interpersonal relations • Knowledge of PHP, Cold fusion, HTML and XML • Learned and demonstrated ability in all of BCCHF competencies: Communication and Interpersonal Skills - Getting along with others. 1.Cellphones top telecom complaints
“Cellphones are the most complained-about telecommunications service, according to the agency that resolves issues between consumers and companies.” Of the 3214 telecommunications complaints opened on Monday, 38% of them were cell phone related. Of the bigger telecommunications companies, Bell Canada had the most, with Rogers second and Telus third http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2009/11...complaints.html 3. The game I chose was rag doll avalanche 2. It seemed rather simple to program, just draw a few triangles, have them fall from random points using a timer and make a character to have dodge them. You can use the collision code to see if they hit you or not, and when they reach the bottom, you have them reappear at a random part along the top. The only thing I can think of that would cause a problem would be making the characters body move like a rag doll. I figure it was programmed in java but it could be something else http://www.ragdollsoft.com/ragdollavalanche/ |

Donovan Cup Literacy Assignment Nov.5/09
How Young is Too Young-social Networking As far as I know, there’s an age requirement to use both sites facebook and myspace, but as I see it there’s no accurate way for the sites to verify ages, and kids sometimes pretend to be older than they are. There are varying opinions on the topic. Some “scientists” worry that pre-adolescent use of social networking sites, which some therapists have linked to internet addiction among adults, could be damaging to children’s relationships and brains. But other experts say there’s no solid research to back that up and that most children seem to use social-media sites in moderation, and in positive ways. There was a survey that was taken in 2006 and they found out that 38% of the 12-14 years of age said that they had an online profile. It is crazy how significantly how much the numbers have risen in social networking profiles since the survey has only been taken 3 years ago. Should kids be using social networking sites? How young is too young?
